Holistic Symphony Psychiatry

I believe there is a wisdom deep inside ourselves, coming from our connection to each other, the earth, and nature that has the answers to our own well-being. I will help you learn to nurture that deep place of wisdom, using a whole-body approach to heal the mind, body, and spirit.

Welcome to Holistic Symphony Psychiatry

Now accepting new patients via telehealth in New York.

Hi, I’m Helene Jacobs, MD

I use a whole-person approach to help adolescents and adults, particularly professional women struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, neurodivergence, and life transitions to gain control of their lives, achieve their goals, and discover how to be their best, joyous, healthy, and confident selves. I offer a warm, safe, non-judgmental therapeutic alliance to promote the kind of healing that transforms lives.

I also specialize in parent guidance, particularly for parents of neurodiverse children with ADHD, on the autism spectrum, or other learning/processing differences.

Through culturally competent care, I also help those in the LGBTQIA+ and Jewish communities, who are exploring issues related to sexuality, gender, and emerging identity, cultivate confidence and a sense of belonging.

We will work together to create comprehensive treatment plans that honor your belief systems, in a mind-body approach which may include a combination of medication if needed, psychotherapy, nutritional support, lifestyle coaching, vitamin and nutraceutical supplements, functional medicine and traditional lab testing (including advanced hormonal, pharmacogenetic and gut microbiome if appropriate), trauma-informed therapy, and more.

My philosophy reflects the belief that it takes a partnership using all tools available to us, in evidence-informed practices, that harness the biological, psychological, and spiritual parts of ourselves to not just alleviate symptoms and suffering, but to achieve wellness and to thrive.

My journey to integrative psychiatry is deeply personal and shaped by my diverse life experiences. Being an offspring of Holocaust survivors, a cancer survivor, part of an LGBTQIA+ family, and parent of three neurodivergent children, in concert with my child & adolescent and adult psychiatry training, I can see the whole person, wherever they are in their life cycle and development.

My Areas of Focus

    • Does it feel like the world has lost its color and joy—as if gravity has been turned up, and pinned you to the couch? Food might taste like cardboard, and even the view outside your window looks like dreary shades of gray.

    • Do you find yourself stuck and overwhelmed by self-doubt, struggling to make decisions or figure out how to move forward with clarity and confidence? Does it feel hard to engage with the world, leaving you stuck and overwhelmed? Even simple tasks can feel impossible, and joy may feel like a distant memory.

    • Are major life transitions—like becoming a parent, navigating menopause, going through a divorce, or retiring—leaving you emotionally drained and struggling to find balance amid shifting roles and responsibilities?

    • Do you feel like your identity is slipping away, as if being a parent, partner, or professional has overshadowed who you are at your core, leaving you unsure of how to reconnect with yourself?

    • Are you caught between meeting the constant demands of loved ones or work (or both!), and find yourself feeling guilty if you take a little time to focus on your own needs and desires?

I can help you experience lightness and joy again. Together we can lift the heavy weight that has been holding you down. We’ll work together to help you rediscover your happiness and confidence, feel more decisive, be more effective at work, and patient with your loved ones. Imagine waking up refreshed, free from the worries that keep you up at night, and excited to tackle the day ahead. You can find ease in daily life, relief from paralyzing fears, and fulfillment in reconnecting with friends and meaningful activities. Most importantly, you can rediscover a sense of purpose and identity beyond the roles of parent, partner, or professional, uncovering the vibrant and whole you that’s been waiting to shine.

    • Do you feel like your mind is a whirlwind, constantly racing from one thought to the next, making it impossible to focus, stay organized, or finish what you start? Are you tired of losing your keys, being late for appointments, or struggling to figure out what to tackle next?

    • Do social situations leave you feeling anxious and out of place? Maybe you crave connection, but reading body language, sarcasm, or subtle social cues feels like decoding an unfamiliar language. Do you find yourself oversharing or avoiding social interactions altogether because they feel too overwhelming?

    • Does navigating life feel like an uphill battle? From tying your shoes to parking your car, driving through life’s ‘painted lines’ often leaves you tripping—literally or metaphorically—and bruised, both physically and emotionally.

    • Are you struggling to balance being true to yourself with reconciling what your family, community, or past taught you to be? Do you wrestle with accepting, liking, and being proud of who you are when it feels like you don’t fit in anywhere?

    • Do tasks that seem simple for others—like managing deadlines, staying tidy, or navigating a large building—leave you feeling stuck, disorganized, or even ashamed? Maybe your messy room feels like a reflection of the chaos you can’t escape, and anxiety hangs over you like a constant weight.

I can help you feel confident in who you are, even if it doesn’t match the expectations set by family or society. Together, we’ll explore how to embrace and celebrate your unique strengths, quirks, and challenges, so you can move forward with pride. If you’re struggling to make decisions or feeling lost in a world that doesn’t always make sense, I’ll guide you in understanding your neurodivergence and finding your own path. You’ll discover how to manage the intensity of your interests, the sensory overloads, and the exhaustion that comes with social interactions, all while building stronger connections with the people around you. We’ll create a life structure that works for you, giving you tools to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at home, school, and work. You’ll finally feel like you’re navigating the world with purpose, fully in tune with who you are.

    • Do your kids complain that you’re “not being fair” because you don’t treat each of them exactly the same way, leaving you secretly questioning if you’re doing the right thing?

    • Are you struggling to apply the “right way”—the one the books or your friends recommend—to discipline your child, only to find that star charts or token systems just don’t work, leaving you wondering what you’re doing wrong?

    • Do you feel overwhelmed trying to help your child stay organized, keep track of homework, or navigate daily life, while juggling the unique needs of each family member?

    • Are you frustrated by the lack of understanding or support from schools, unsure what to ask for or how to advocate for accommodations that truly help your child succeed?

    • Do you feel isolated, carrying the weight of responsibility for your child’s challenges and wondering if there’s a better way to support them—and yourself?

I can help you better understand your child’s unique neurodivergence and how it shows up in their day-to-day life. Together, we’ll explore your child’s strengths and challenges. We will develop tools and strategies to help you manage their needs with confidence and ease. You’ll feel better equipped to navigate the difficulties of life when you know exactly how to support your child in ways that honor their individuality. With my guidance, you can cultivate a stronger, more connected bond with your child, based on a deeper understanding of their experience and needs. In addition, you'll gain a sense of community and support, knowing you’re not alone in this journey, and that you can access the resources that will help your family thrive.

    • Are you struggling to find your place in this post-Oct 7th world?

    • Do you feel isolated, tentatively on the edge of  a community that used to feel safe to you but now certain subjects, like being Jewish or Zionist, or even wearing your Jewish star necklace seems to put you at odds with that community and push you out?  How do you find support as you balance your identity in a world that often misunderstands or overlooks it at best?

    • Are you struggling with acculturation, adapting to life in a new country, or navigating the tension between honoring your traditions and fitting into broader society?

    • Have you experienced traumatic invalidation, discrimination or subtle antisemitism, wondering whether to speak up or stay silent to avoid being ostracized? Or wonder if you can trust yourself to identify something that happened to you as antisemitic?

    • Do you find yourself questioning how to respond when someone at school, work, or in social settings says or does something that feels antisemitic but isn’t overtly clear?

    • Are you seeking ways to preserve your sense of self and pride in your heritage while addressing the complexities of prejudice and misunderstanding?

I can help you find your voice and navigate the complexities of belonging within the Jewish community and in the post-Oct 7th world. Together, we’ll explore how to cultivate a sense of self-acceptance, confidence and growth even in the face of traumatic invalidation, discrimination and anti-Semitism. By creating personalized coping strategies, we’ll address the trauma and emotional weight that comes with these challenges, allowing you to stand strong in your identity. You’ll feel empowered to embrace who you are, knowing that you have a community of support behind you. With greater clarity and resilience, you’ll be better equipped to confidently engage in your community and advocate for yourself, while embracing the rich cultural heritage that shapes you.
